The Right Improvements, in the Right Order

A Retrofit Assessment is a detailed whole-house energy survey that tells you exactly which measures will make the biggest difference to your home — and in what order to install them. It's the essential first step before any major energy efficiency project.

What Is a Retrofit Assessment?

A Whole-House Plan for Your Home

A Retrofit Assessment goes far beyond a standard Energy Performance Certificate. Our qualified Retrofit Assessors carry out a comprehensive survey of your property — examining insulation levels, heating system, ventilation, airtightness, moisture, and structural fabric — to build a complete picture of your home's energy performance.

The result is a detailed Retrofit Assessment Report and Medium Term Improvement Plan (MTIP) that sets out the right measures for your home, in the right sequence, to maximise comfort, minimise bills, and avoid the risks of poorly planned retrofits such as damp, condensation, and overheating.

PAS 2030/2035 Compliant

Our Retrofit Assessments are carried out to PAS 2030/2035 standards — the UK's national standard for domestic retrofit. This is required for most government-funded improvement schemes.

Qualified Retrofit Assessors

All assessments are carried out by accredited Retrofit Assessors. We hold professional indemnity insurance and are fully qualified to produce reports accepted by all major funding schemes.

Report in 5 Working Days

Your Retrofit Assessment Report and Medium Term Improvement Plan (MTIP) are delivered within 5 working days of the on-site survey.

Why It Matters

The Risks of Getting It Wrong

Damp & Condensation

Installing insulation without addressing ventilation can trap moisture in walls and ceilings, leading to damp, mould, and structural damage.

Wasted Investment

Installing measures in the wrong order — for example, a heat pump before improving insulation — can result in a system that underperforms and costs more to run.

Funding Eligibility

Many government funding schemes, including the Warm Homes Plan and ECO4, require a Retrofit Assessment before work can begin. Without one, you may not qualify.

Overheating Risk

Poorly sequenced insulation improvements can cause overheating in summer. A Retrofit Assessment identifies and mitigates this risk as part of the plan.

A Retrofit Assessment eliminates all of these risks. By understanding your home as a whole system before any work begins, we ensure every improvement is safe, effective, and sequenced correctly.

What's Included

A Comprehensive Survey of Your Home

Fabric Assessment

Detailed inspection of walls, roof, floors, windows, and doors — measuring U-values and identifying heat loss pathways.

Heating System Review

Assessment of your existing heating and hot water system, including boiler age, efficiency, controls, and heat emitters.

Ventilation Survey

Evaluation of existing ventilation provision and identification of any risks associated with planned improvements.

Moisture & Airtightness

Assessment of moisture levels, existing damp issues, and the property's airtightness — critical for safe insulation planning.

Improvement Plan (MTIP)

A sequenced Medium Term Improvement Plan setting out the recommended measures, their order of installation, and projected outcomes.

Funding Guidance

Advice on which funding schemes you may be eligible for based on your assessment results, including ECO4, Warm Homes Plan, and Home Energy Scotland.

Funding Available

Funding That Requires a Retrofit Assessment

A Retrofit Assessment is a prerequisite for several major government funding schemes. Getting yours done early puts you in the best position to access the funding you're entitled to.

Fully funded

Warm Homes Plan

The Scottish Government's Warm Homes Plan requires a Retrofit Assessment before funding whole-home improvement packages for eligible households.

Fully funded

ECO4 Scheme

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme funds insulation and heating measures for eligible households — a Retrofit Assessment is required for complex measures.

Up to £15,000

Home Energy Scotland Grant & Loan

Scottish Government grants and interest-free loans for energy efficiency improvements. A Retrofit Assessment strengthens your application.
